Our sea kayaking vacations are based in one of the best sea kayaking locations in Europe - the West coast of Scotland provides amazing locations for sea kayaking. You will be based in Cairnbaan Mid Argyll, giving you access easy access to amazing locations which are suitable for beginners and the more experienced.

 

Guided and Unguided inclusions are similar , itineraries are different: 

4 nights self-catered accommodation in our own Karibu cottage.. Karibu cottage will be for your own private use. Our cottage is located in Cairnbaan, 1 minute walk from the local pub serving a range of meals. Karibu cottage is well equipped with all amenities. It has 2 double bedrooms with 2 double beds. Karibu Cottage 

3 days sea kayaking activities: This includes full day and half day trips and a couple of land-based learning sessions covering safety, navigation, tides etc.

Al l sea kayaking equipment and local transport.  After you make a booking, you will be supplied with a list of personal items that you are required to bring along.

Guided , all aspects of the sea kayaking vacation are fully supervised by a British Canoeing Sea coach.

Sample Itinerary: Guided (Weather may affect and or change the itinerary).

Day 1 : Travel to Argyll and check in to Karibu Cottage anytime after 4 pm. At some point after your arrival you will be met by a member of our team to have an informal introductory meeting.

Day 2 :  After breakfast we will depart around 10.00am and make our way to one of the many launch locations, where we will have our introduction session to sea kayaking. We will go for a short paddle to learn the basics. For lunch we will go ashore with your picnic and continue in the afternoon to learn some additional fundamental skills. We will return to Karibu around 5pm.

Day 3: We will depart Karibu Cottage around 10.00 am. Today we will build on the skills we learned on Tuesday. We will head back to Karibu cottage and at around 3.00pm we have a on shore based learning sessions, covering the basics of Navigation, Tides, Weather and route planning. This session will last until around 7.00 pm.

Day 4:  We will depart Karibu cottage at around 10.00. Today we will focus on learning some new skills including basic sea kayak rescue techniques and put into practice some of the navigation and planning skills we discovered from Wednesday evening session.  

Day 5 :  After breakfast you will depart Karibu Cottage by 10.00am. 

 

Please note: The area where Karibu cottage is located is ideal for many other activities (walking , cycling, wild swimming etc) You can extend your stay at Karibu cottage for the reduced nightly rate of £100, subject to availability.

Unguided: (see below) Although there is a an unguided option available - you will be provided with a morning input of the sea kayak basics in sheltered waters, followed by an afternoon of theory based input concerning various important safety matters.

UNGUIDED Sample Itinerary (Weather may affect and or change the itinerary).

We will go for a short paddle to learn the basics. We will then return to Karibu cottage for lunch. In the afternoon we will have a 3 hour land based session to learn some important safety aspects of sea kayaking and planning you trip for the next day finishing around 6pm.

Day 3: We will depart Karibu Cottage around 10.00 am. You will be taken to the agreed drop off location and picked up again around 5.00pm to return you to Karibu cottage. 

Day 4:   We will depart Karibu Cottage around 10.00 am. You will be taken to the agreed drop off location and picked up again around 5.00pm to return you to Karibu cottage 

Day 5 :  After breakfast you will depart Karibu Cottage by 10.00am.

Travelling to Cairnbaan, Scotland: This vacation and activity week is based in Cairnbaan Argyll , 

1. For international travellers , fly to Glasgow (GLA) airport, then follow the travel guidance below. 

2. The nearest town to this vacation base is Lochgilphead, which is easily reached by coach from Glasgow. The 926 service operated 5 times per day. 

3. After you arrive in Lochgilphead we will arrange to collect you free of charge. 

4. Alternatively you can take the Scotrail train from Glasgow to Oban , operates 3 times daily. From Oban to Cairnbaan a bus is possible depending on times or a taxi will cost an extra £50 for up to 3 people.     

5. Airport transfers from and to Glasgow International airport can be arranged at extra cost. Please enquire.
